We find your first (or next) instrument.
Revive Instruments is a commission service, not a store and not a rental. Tell us what you play
and what you can spend. We deliver high quality referbrished instruments for everyone.
They play like new.
01 - The Truth
Used does not mean abused.
Just because it's used does not mean it doesnt work. Some instruments have survived centuries, they can survive a student. Some horns are played for less than a week before we get our hands on it.
- Broken in, not broken
- Instruments from a big box warehouse can come with unexpected defects and usually have a certain "new instrument" resistance that can sometimes make it more difficult for new players.
- Instruments are like cars
- The moment you leave the music store, your instrument plummets in value. We use that to our advantage.
- One owner's mistake is your discount
- Most used instruments are sold because a kid quit band, not because anything is wrong with them.
02 - Set the record straight
Revive Instruments is...
NOT! A rental
You own the instrument outright, the day it arrives. No monthly fee, no return date, no upgrade contract. When you're done with it in four years, it's yours to sell, trade, or hand down.
A commission
You tell us your budget, your instrument, and your playing level, and we go source, inspect, and prep something specific to you.
03 - How it works
The honest timeline
We don't keep a warehouse of instruments waiting for a sale. Every commission starts after you book, which means it takes real time - usually 30 days or more, start to finish. Here's where that time goes.
-
Day 0
Your call
You talk through goals, budget, and instrument of choice.
-
Day 1–10
The search
We source candidates from trusted sellers and techs - not a warehouse of overstock.
-
Day 10-30
Refurbish & test
We recieve it, a tech services it, we play-test it ourselves, and reject anything that doesn't meet spec.
-
Day 30+
It ships to you
Final inspection, case check, and it's on its way. We'd rather be late and right than fast and sorry.
Faster turnarounds are sometimes possible depending on what's already in the pipeline for your instrument - ask on your call.
04 - The price tag
Roughly half of what the big stores charge
Prices vary by instrument, condition, and brand, but commissions typically land 30–50% below comparable new student models from big box music retailers. No lease markup, no showroom overhead.
| Instrument | Big box, new | Revive Instruments |
|---|---|---|
| Student clarinet | $1229 | $400 |
| Student trumpet | $1599 | $550 |
| Alto saxophone | $2799 | $1300 |
| Student Flute | $1229 | $600 |

05 - Quality control
Every instrument earns its way to you
Nothing ships because it looked fine "in theory". Every commission goes through the same inspection before it's approved for a player.
- ✓ Full mechanical inspection by a certified instrument tech
- ✓ Play-tested start to finish across its full range, not just a scale
- ✓ Seals, pads, valves, and joints checked and reconditioned as needed
- ✓ Cosmetic issues disclosed up front - no surprises at unboxing
- ✓ Rejected and re-sourced if it doesn't meet our standard, no exceptions
If it doesn't pass, it doesn't ship. If it doesn't sound right in your hands, we make it right.
06 - The human part
Handpicked by someone who's played it, not just searched for it.
You could scroll listings yourself and ask an AI which one to buy. It'll give you a confident-sounding answer based on specs and reviews for an instrument it's never held. We do it differently - every instrument is handpicked by an experienced young musician who has bought, sold, and played instruments like it before. That's judgment a spec sheet can't fake.
"A listing can't tell you how a horn feels in your hands. Someone who's played one of them can."
07 - Talk to us first
Talk to a musician, not a salesperson
Every commission starts with a real conversation - one-on-one, with someone who plays. Someone who's had to make the same descisions you're making now. No upselling or false claims, we were there once too.
- Matched with someone who plays your instrument family
- Personalized recommendations based on your level, section, and goals
- Straight answers about what's worth paying more for and what isn't
FAQ
Questions people ask before they book
Why does it take 30+ days? +
Because we're finding and preparing one specific instrument for you, not shipping from stock. Sourcing, inspection, repair, and re-testing all take real time.
Is this a rent-to-own program? +
No. There are no reacurring payments or reselling restrictions. Once it arrives, its yours.
What if I don't like the instrument when it arrives? +
Talk to us. Every commission is backed by our play-tested guarantee - if something's genuinely wrong, we'll make it right.
Who actually tests these? +
Talented musicians, which all came up through school band programs themselves, alongside a certified repair tech for the mechanical work.
